Agaseke: Traditional Rwandan Baskets

"Agaseke" or "igiseke" baskets are time-honored and cherished Rwandan handicrafts. According to Rwanda Art, in Rwandan culture, agaseke or igiseke is an exceptionally traditional object, symbolizing a secret or a wish for prosperity hidden within the basket. Tradition has it that a recently married young girl possessed a "giseke", so as to store in it her most valued treasures, and to display as a decorative home piece.
